I have once again made the trek from LA to SD. It was a super long weekend and I am done for. To put how tired I am in perspective, when I was packing my car up for the drive I thought I saw a stag standing in our car port. Yea, there wasn't..
So I'm going to share some of the random thoughts that were thought on this delirious ride home (at least, what I can remember).
1. Relationships are like running. Whether short or long, they will all run their course. Most of us hope to find that partner that you just keep running with until you (or they) finally drops dead of a heart attack.
2. There is a Neon Tree's song called In the Next Room. The chorus goes like this:
Ooh, I lose control
When I hear your body move
Through the walls
In the next room
Essentially, they are talking about some creeper listening to his neighbor having sex all the time and it turns him on. There is also:
I won't take
No no no no no no no no
Oh, I lose controlSo he's going to rape her, eventually. For the win.
3. That's all I've got. I was trying to think really hard about everything that went through my head in the past two hours but my brain has pretty much ceased functioning at this point. I'm a little disheartened by this because I feel like I had more stuff to say...
2 fun facts that I just learned while finishing up this post:
A. Apparently I only type with my first finger on my right hand (and all the fingers on my left hand). I never noticed but now that it's been pointed out to me, I totally do.
B. The QWERTY layout of keyboards was invited way back in the day to actually slow down typists. The machines couldn't keep up with the typing and so they jumbled the letters to mess people up. Chew on that food for thought.

Life, death, and everything inbetween
It's been quite some time since I've written! I got caught up in a somewhat mundane time of my life and didn't feel like there was much worth writing about. Today turned out to be interesting however.
My work is located at the major intersection of Laurel Canyon and Ventura. While at work today, we started hearing a ton of police sirens go by. Next thing we know, Laurel Canyon is shut down and there's police everywhere. Apparently there was a murder suspect who was spotted at a nearby elementary school. It was pretty crazy to sort of be able to witness it so close by. That being said, you can do a quick read up on the conclusion to this semi-epic saga here.
If you didn't get it, that was the "death" part of the title. Here's the life and everything else part summed up in two stories.
Firstly, I stepped on a screw today. Not a tack, a pin, or a nail, but a screw. Here's what I learned about that... stepping on a screw is much worse because of the ridges. They dig in a little more. Honestly, it hardly went into my foot but it was enough that the ridges caught and I had to pull it out. It hurt a lot, I think more so than a smooth object because, I imagine, it tore up the skin more upon exit. Moral of the story: if you are going to step on something, anything but a screw. I'll be double checking later to make sure I am up to date with my tetanus shot (btw, who knew tetanus was spelled tet-anus? I realize my mind works like a 12 yr old boy sometimes).
Second, I went in to renew my drivers license the other day. I had to actually go into the DMV and go through all the trouble of a new photos, eye test, and.. a written test! My god. Everything went smoothly until then. You answer 15 questions and have to get at least 12 correct. I am pretty confident in my driving but that's different than answering questions about it.
So I get the test in front of me and start going through the questions. About 4-5 in I am reading and there's a few that cause me to think "What the fuck?! I have no idea!". So I stress over the next 10 questions and then get in line to get checked. Both of the people in front of me FAIL and have to, not only retake the test, but pay AGAIN and start the whole process over. By the time I got up to have my test checked, I am all but hyperventilating thinking that I am going to get four wrong and have to do this whole shit all over again.
Well, I did pass thank god. But it was an incredibly stressful 5 minutes of my life. I'm pretty sure I had to do all that since it was my first license since being 21 but I hope I don't have to do that again for awhile.
That's kinda it unfortunately.. hopefully something terribly exciting will happen soon that will be cause for a more interesting post.

Jinx!
So my roomie and I are chillin watching TV and we heard raised voices from the apartment below. We discussed it briefly, trying to decided whether it was a fight or people just talking excitedly. It was really hard to tell because the dialog on the TV was enough to drown out exactly what they were saying. We decided we didn't care and gave up, continuing to watch TV.
A few minutes later, there was a pause in dialog on TV and we heard a crystal clear..
"Fuck you!"
We both looked at each other at the exact same time and said, "It's a fight."
Classic.

Much Ado About Mumford
Okay, so I am a fan of Mumford and Sons. If you know them, you know the song Sigh No More.
Here's the lyrics:
Serve God love me and mend
This is not the end
Lived unbruised we are friends
And I'm sorry
I'm sorry
Sigh no more, no more
One foot in sea, one on shore
My heart was never pure
And you know me
And you know me
And man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing
Love it will not betray you, dismay or enslave you,
It will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be.
There is a design,
An alignment to cry,
Of my heart to see,
The beauty of love as it was made to be
Okay. So I was watching a 1993 Shakespeare movie called Much Ado About Nothing. Check it out. About halfway through the movie and at the end of the movie they sing a song that is a love poem by Shakespeare called "Sigh No More, Ladies". Here's the lyrics for that:
Sigh no more, ladies, sigh nor more;
Men were deceivers ever;
One foot in sea and one on shore,
To one thing constant never;
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny;
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into. Hey nonny, nonny.
Sing no more ditties, sing no mo,
Or dumps so dull and heavy;
The fraud of men was ever so,
Since summer first was leavy.
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into. Hey, nonny, nonny.
I'm sure you can figure out the connection yourself. I'd also like to point out a quote from the book and the end of the movie...
"In brief, since I do purpose to marry, I will think nothing to any purpose that the world can say against it; and therefore never flout at me for what I have said against it; for man is a giddy thing, and this is my conclusion."
My conclusion: Mumford is a Shakespeare fan.

My awesome pales in comparison to your awesome
So today (technically yesterday) I got a phone call from someone with a very thick accent. I pretty much missed most of the conversation but here's what I did get from it:
- Girl calling is doing production design
- Student film
- Pays
- "High fashion" look
- Email your resume to said email address
So I got off the phone with a kind of "whatever" attitude and sent off the email.
Now, it's been a few hours and I got an email from the producer asking to meet up or talk about the project sometime soon. Great. I don't know anything about it really so I clicked on the website to check out the synopsis and do a little spying on the main crew.
Here's what I got:
- AFI film, with a really fancy website (this is in comparison to the other AFI websites I've seen)
- Writer/director, Producer, DP, Editor, and Story Editor are all extremely good looking people
- Said people from above are almost all from a foreign country, have done something incredibly awesome pertaining towards their current skill, and all around are much cooler than I am
- I pretty much stopped there, I couldn't look anymore
I emailed him back but suddenly I feel very inadequate for the job. The goal is to show up, somehow be 1000x more amazing than I really am, and then be besties with them all so I can jump on their seemingly inevitable future success train.
Okay, first is land the job.

"The DOG? You were named after the DOG?"
The other night I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark with some friends and, aside from a few obviously holes in the plot, we noticed one other important aspect: Indiana Jones does jack shit in the end to actually kill the bad guys. All the Nazi's are killed by the arc while Indiana stands by with his eyes closed.
So today, to continue the series, I watched the Last Crusade (because we all know Temple of Doom is awful). Once again, I noticed that Indiana does nothing to save the day. All he does is retrieve the grail in order to save his father. It's that greedy little ho, Elisa, who crosses the seal with the grail in her hand and, consequently, brings down the entire temple. It's just pure luck that the three good guys manage to just escape with their lives while all the Nazi's are crushed and killed.
Like I said, we all know that Temple of Doom is awful but I looked up the plot on Wikipedia (I've only seen it once or twice). As far as I can tell, the main bad guy dies because he trips and falls off a cliff to be eaten by crocs while the rest of the bad guys are apprehended by the British Indian Army.
I don't know if I consider this revelation a good thing or a bad thing, but it certainly makes Indy a little less bad ass in my eyes. He just has a stupid amount of good luck. Seriously, he should have been killed by now.
Enjoy this one on your way out.. "He chose... poorly."

Grammys: Live
I'm watching the Grammys and I don't feel like constantly bombarding facebook with my comments so I will do it here..
Rihanna's dress is hideous. Sorry.
Ok, why does Christina have a special, red microphone? What has she done recently that warrants her standing out so much? I mean, really? And man.. there was a major diva-off at the end of that tribute.
I love that Ricki Martin has embraced the gay and is wearing tight, silver pants. Good for him.
Lady Gaga's performance? Hmm.. not crazy about it. The FX make up job is cool. I guess its because I'm just not a huge fan of the song. It sounds like a Madonna rip off. I like Lady Gaga because I feel like her songs are unique to her. This latest one feels very pop generic. Slightly let down.
"Three young, break out artist" performing = my chance to take a nap while I wait for something exciting to happen. The only thing I can comment on is that Bruno Mars sounds really good. I don't know his music all that well but, as far as I can tell, he sounds pretty much the same singing live as he does on the radio.
Muse literally just woke me up from what was promising to be a deep sleep with their acceptance speech. It was really awkward. No need to mention Kate Hudson. It's the Grammys.
I'm happy to see Lady Gaga so surprised and happy at winning. Good for her. You might not like her music but I feel like she's very real in the hard work that she puts into her career.
MUMFORD!
Uh Bob Dillon say whaa..?
1. I didn't realize Lady Antebellum was a country singer.
2. She is really pretty.
Okay, really excited about Cee Lo (and Gwyneth). I love this song... AND I LOVE HIS RIDICULOUS COSTUME! He has a muppet band! Best grammy performance, hands down. It's a must see!!
NPH is in the house! Reppin' How I Met Your Mother. I love him.
John Mayer kinda rocks the pirate look but then you look at his face a little closer and you remember who it is. Way to reach for awesome and fail, JM.
Back to Lady Antebellum, I really like that song. I'm happy for their win.
Ahahaha.. Seth Rogan's pot jokes are totally over done but I enjoyed his joke at Miley Cyrus' expense. Especially because she is probably in the audience.
I like Rihanna's dress during her performance with Eminem. It's very cool. It was an artsy way of making it look like it was part burned. I recommend watching the first 40-60 seconds of the performance on YouTube to really get a good look at it. Sorry for my shitty photo. It doesn't do much justice to the dress.
As for the chick who just won best new artist.. I have no idea who the heck she is but her hair be cra-zay! (and her dress kinda fails)
Ok.. so the Grammys started at 8. It's 10:40 right now. My GOD they take forever! This is my first time actually watching the show. This is the last time actually watching the show. Next year I am reverting to my methods of continuing on with my life and watching the highlights later on YouTube.
Congrads Marshall Mathers.
Okay, 3 hour mark.. this is getting torturous. But.. I'm committed and can't back out now.
Arcade Fire just gave me a seizure.
I am not a fan of Barbra Streisand by any means (not that I don't appreciate her very successful career) but I need to say that for a woman who is almost 70, she looks absolutely stunning.
And, although I almost died the first time, congrad to Arcade Fire for winning album of the year and then getting to perform in celebration. That's pretty awesome.
MOST IMPORTANTLY!
I think its finally over. Thank god.
